Company Description:

During the 1970’s, my Grandmother, Kiymet loved to travel throughout Western Europe, visiting new and exciting locations. She immersed herself in the arts and style of Europe. She fell in love with the superior design and quality of the Italian porcelain home decor vases, lamps and Capodimonte figurines. When she returned to her home in Istanbul, Turkey, she shared her excitement about all of the creative design elements and beauty of Italian Craftsmanship with her friends and associates. She realized the commercial potential and decided to go into business as an importer of these wonderful Italian fabrics, porcelains and of course, lamps. At the time, she was one of very few international importers of home decor-design in Turkey and she was the only woman doing this. Over the years, leaning on her instincts and networking ability, she furnished and decorated the homes of the rich and the famous artists, business people and politicians in Istanbul and Western Turkey. She continued the successful Interior Design & Import business until her retirement in 2010.

When I was a young boy, she often took me with her on road trips to Italy. I learned so much from her. Not only about importing and exporting, she taught me about the value of high quality, beautiful hand crafted “works of art” made right in Turkey. When I moved to America some 20 years ago, I was often drawn back to Turkey and the centuries old crafting of handcut glass mosaics. My Grandmother is the inspiration behind my importing business, which I have named in her honor. I hope you enjoy the beauty and Everyday Elegance of Kiymet Handcrafts.
